As an established leader in the industry, we are looking for a dedicated and skilled Steel Fabricator / Welder to join our thriving Steels Department at our Colney Heath branch. Steel Fabrication and Welding – Key Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions for accurate steel fabrication and welding.
- Fabricate, assemble, and weld steel components for construction and installation projects, ensuring high standards of workmanship.
- Use fabrication tools and welding equipment safely and effectively, including MIG, TIG, and arc welding processes.
- Carry out quality inspections on finished products, ensuring dimensional and structural accuracy before delivery.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and handling of steel products in the workshop and yard.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
- Report any machinery defects, safety issues, or production concerns promptly to your Line Manager.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Steels Department and wider branch network to meet production targets and customer requirements.
Skills, Experience, and Attributes for Steel Fabrication and Welding Roles
- Previous experience in steel fabrication and welding is essential.
- Proficient in MAG, MIG, TIG, and arc welding, cutting and shaping steel to precise measurements.
- Able to read and work accurately from technical drawings and schematics.
- Comfortable with heavy manual handling and working in a busy workshop environment.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a strong focus on quality control.
- Team player, adaptable to changing workloads and able to communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Self-motivated with a positive approach to safety, efficiency, and productivity.
- Relevant welding and fabrication qualifications are desirable but not essential for candidates with significant experience.
Working Hours and Rewarding Benefits at Lawsons
- Location: Colney Heath Steels Department, Tyttenhanger Farm, Coursers Rd, St Albans AL4 0PG.
- Full-time position, Monday - Friday 6:30am to 4pm, plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 6.00am to 10.00am.
- Salary range - £36,000 - £38,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and an additional celebration day.
