Counter and Telesales Role - Bishops Stortford

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused individual to join our AVS Bishops Stortford branch in a dual Counter Sales and Telesales role. As a vital part of our trade counter team, you will deliver excellent service to trade and retail customers while supporting our continued sales growth over the phone and in branch.

Working Hours and Branch Location 

This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 17:00, with alternate Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00.

Branch Location: AVS Fencing Supplies, Horse Cross, Standon, Ware, SG11 2PU.

Main Responsibilities – Counter Sales & Telesales

• Provide outstanding customer service, offering expert advice on our wide range of timber, building materials, and fencing products.
• Proactively handle inbound and outbound telesales calls, identifying customer requirements and supporting branch sales growth.
• Process orders and quotations at the counter and over the phone using our EPOS/CRM systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
• Maximise sales by identifying upselling and cross-selling opportunities both in branch and via telephone.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with trade and retail customers to encourage repeat business.
• Help merchandise and maintain a well-presented trade counter area at all times.
• Work collaboratively with the warehouse, yard, and delivery teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
• Assist with stock checks, rotations, and general stock control duties.
• Resolve customer queries or complaints efficiently, ensuring a positive resolution every time.
• Uphold all company operational processes and health & safety requirements.

Skills & Experience – What We’re Looking For

• Sales experience in a builders merchant, trade counter, telesales, or retail sales role (essential).
• Excellent telephone manner and interpersonal skills, able to build rapport quickly.
• Strong computer literacy and confidence using EPOS and CRM systems.
• Good product knowledge, or willingness to learn about fencing, timber, and building materials.
• Detail-oriented, accurate, and reliable in processing orders, quotations, and payments.
• Proactive, calm under pressure, and an effective problem solver.
• Positive team player, adaptable, and committed to a high standard of customer service.
