Lawsons, the UK’s largest independent supplier of fencing, timber, and building materials, is looking for a driven and customer-focused External Sales Representative to join our growing Colney Heath team. External Sales Representative Role – Colney Heath
As an External Sales Representative for Lawsons in Colney Heath, you will be responsible for managing and developing relationships with new and existing customers, driving sales growth across our full product range. This position combines proactive business development with exceptional account management, ensuring that our clients receive the best possible service and product solutions.
Key Sales and Customer Relationship Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and convert new business opportunities within designated sales territory.
- Maintain regular contact with existing customers to understand their ongoing business needs.
- Promote our range of fencing, timber, and building materials to trade and retail customers.
- Deliver agreed sales targets and KPIs for revenue, margin, and account growth.
- Provide outstanding customer service, offering technical advice and product recommendations.
- Prepare and follow up on quotations, tenders, and proposals in a timely manner.
- Build and nurture strong working relationships with both internal branch teams and external clients.
- Monitor and report on competitor activity within your region, feeding insights back to the business.
Required Skills, Experience, and Personal Attributes
- Proven external sales experience in the builders' merchant or construction materials sector (essential).
- Full UK driving license – travel to customer sites is essential.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently whilst being a loyal team player.
- Results-orientated, with a proactive approach to winning business and managing accounts.
- Good understanding of timber, building, and fencing products highly desirable.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Committed to delivering high standards of professionalism and service.
Working Hours, Salary, and Employee Benefits
- Full-time role – standard Monday to Friday, with some flexibility for occasional customer needs.
- Attractive salary package, ranging between £35,000 - £40,000 dependant on experience.
