Transport Supervisor Opportunity – Colney Heath
As a Transport Supervisor at Lawsons Colney Heath, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our delivery operations. You will be responsible for supervising the transport team, co-ordinating deliveries, and promoting safety and compliance within the fleet. Your leadership will help us deliver our range of building materials and timber products to customers safely, on time, and to the highest standard.
Key Transport Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily transport operations, ensuring all deliveries are completed efficiently and accurately.
- Supervise, support, and motivate all drivers and yard team members involved in transport tasks.
- Allocate vehicles and plan delivery schedules to optimise routes and maximise fleet efficiency.
- Liaise with colleagues and customers to resolve queries and provide clear delivery updates.
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained in accordance with legal and company standards, reporting any issues promptly.
- Uphold company policies and statutory obligations, including health and safety and driver working time regulations.
- Carry out and document regular vehicle and driver checks, ensuring compliance at all times.
- Promote a positive team culture, strong communication, and excellent customer service throughout the transport function.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and performance reviews of transport team members as required.
Essential Transport Supervisor Skills, Experience, and Attributes
- Experience in transport, logistics, or fleet management within the builders’ merchant or construction materials sector (essential).
- Background in team supervision and route planning (essential).
- Good working knowledge of vehicle maintenance, transport legislation, and driver compliance.
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Proficient communicator with a positive, collaborative, and solutions-focused approach.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Competent IT user, able to work with delivery management or fleet tracking systems.
- Full UK driving licence required; HGV licence and/or relevant CPC qualification desirable but not essential.
- Commitment to health and safety best practice and continuous improvement.
Working Hours, Salary, and Employee Benefits
- Full-time, permanent position based at our Colney Heath branch.
- Working hours would be Monday - Friday plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 08.00 - 12.00
- Competitive salary, dependant on experience (£32,000 - £34,000)
- 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays and an additional celebration day.
