Main Responsibilities of a Yard Operative / Security Guard – Lawsons Acton
- Maintain a safe, organised, and tidy yard, ensuring building materials, timber, and supplies are stored correctly and accessible.
- Carry out regular foot patrols of the site, monitoring for any suspicious activity and ensuring the security of the premises at all times.
- Checking that customers have the right materials and the right quantities whilst making sure to assist where needed in the loading of materials.
- Control site access, checking deliveries, vehicles, and visitors to prevent unauthorised entry and maintain safety.
- Assist customers and colleagues in locating and loading building materials, delivering excellent service and support throughout the yard.
- Operate forklifts and other site equipment safely, where required and once trained.
- Respond promptly to any security incidents or alarms, following company procedures and escalating issues where appropriate.
- Support general warehouse and housekeeping duties as required, contributing to a professional and efficient working environment.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and promote a culture of safety and respect within the team.
What We’re Looking For – Yard Operative / Security Guard Skills & Experience
- Previous experience and product knowledge within a builders merchants environment (e.g. yard, warehouse, security) is essential.
- Strong awareness of site safety and security best practices.
- Friendly, approachable, and professional manner with excellent communication skills.
- Reliable and responsible approach, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to remain alert, focused, and calm under pressure.
- Valid forklift licence is essential.
- Commitment to upholding Lawsons’ values of service, reliability, and integrity.
Working Hours, Pay and Benefits – Careers at Lawsons Acton
- Full-time permanent role, working Monday to Friday with alternate Saturday mornings 08.00 - 12.00)
- Competitive salary package dependant with experience (£29,000 - £31,000)
- 25 days paid holiday plus Bank Holidays and a celebration day.
