Yard Operative Responsibilities in Sidcup
- Accurately pick, check, and prepare building products for customer collection and delivery.
- Ensure safe and secure loading and unloading of goods, complying with Health and Safety standards at all times.
- Replenish yard stock, rotate merchandise, and maintain tidy storage in accordance with company procedures.
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting trade and retail customers in the yard – answering queries, offering advice, and resolving issues promptly.
- Operate forklift trucks and mechanical equipment safely, adhering to company policy and PPE requirements.
- Maintain the highest standards of yard tidiness, safety, and organisation, reducing hazards and supporting regular yard audits.
- Accurately complete paperwork for stock movements, deliveries, and all company processes.
- Report and manage any discrepancies, damages, or safety concerns directly to your line manager.
- Champion Lawsons values of teamwork, professionalism, and customer focus in all areas of your work.
Who We’re Looking For – Skills & Experience for Yard Operative Roles in Sidcup
- Previous experience working in a yard environment at a builders’ merchant is essential.
- Live and valid forklift licence, with up-to-date forklift training (essential).
- Good understanding of stock rotation, product picking, and basic warehouse operations.
- Confident communicator, able to build positive working relationships with both customers and colleagues.
- Strong attention to detail, with good mathematical and problem-solving abilities.
- Approachable, reliable, and committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering excellent customer service within a fast-paced setting.
- Capable of working independently and as part of an engaged, high-performing yard team.
Working Hours & Location
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Monday to Friday plus alternate Saturday mornings (08.00 - 12.00)
- Location: Lawsons Sidcup Branch, Unit 2 Five Arches Business Estate, Maidstone Rd, Sidcup, DA14 5AE.
Yard Operative Salary & Benefits – Lawsons Sidcup
- Competitive salary ranging from £29,000 to £31,000 depending on experience.
- 25 days’ annual leave, plus Bank Holidays and one celebration day.
