Relief HGV Driver Opportunity – Class 2 Hiab – Witham Timber
Are you a safety-minded, customer-focused HGV Class 2 Hiab Driver looking for a new challenge with a respected building materials supplier? Lawsons at Witham Timber is seeking a talented Relief HGV Driver to deliver quality timber and building materials with outstanding service, stepping in to keep operations running smoothly during peak periods and driver absences.
Location and Working Hours
- Based at Witham Timber, serving customers across the local and surrounding areas.
- Full-time, permanent relief driver position: Monday to Friday, 06:30 – 16:00 with alternate Saturdays, 08:00 – 12:30 (44.5 hours per week).
Salary and Benefits
- Competitive annual salary ranging between £34,000 - £36,000.

Key Responsibilities
- Safely deliver timber and building materials to trade and retail customers throughout the operating region.
- Skilfully operate the HIAB crane for safe, accurate loading and unloading of products.
- Demonstrate exemplary customer service skills, positively representing Lawsons’ values and standards at all times.
- Adapt quickly to support different routes, locations, and teams, providing reliable relief cover as required.
- Follow all road safety, health and safety, and company compliance procedures diligently.
- Contribute to loss and damage prevention, reporting any issues in line with company policy.
- Build and maintain constructive customer relationships through polite and effective communication.
- Assist colleagues to maximise efficiency and maintain the highest operational standards across the fleet.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence and HIAB Loader Crane certification (essential).
- Significant professional driving experience; experience within builders’ merchants or construction sector highly advantageous.
- Proven knowledge of health and safety and road transport regulations.
- Excellent communication skills with a friendly, team-oriented approach.
- Ability to remain calm and productive under pressure and when covering multiple routes or locations.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
- Keen to learn about Lawsons’ product range and uphold high standards of service.
- Open-minded, adaptable, and keen to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and respect.
