Mill Operative Career Opportunity in Ascot
- Full-time position, Monday to Friday 07:30 – 17:00 and alternate Saturdays 08:00 – 12:00 (44.5 hours per week).
- Competitive salary (£30,000 - £32,000) dependent on experience.

Main Responsibilities – Timber Mill Operative, Ascot
- Safely operate milling machinery and equipment to cut, prepare, and produce timber and building materials according to specification and order requirements.
- Carry out regular quality checks to ensure products meet Lawsons’ exacting standards for safety, accuracy, and finish.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of materials, ensuring safe manual handling and proper use of lifting equipment as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working mill environment, adhering strictly to all Health & Safety and company procedures.
- Accurately record production data, follow work schedules, and help process customer orders for both trade and retail sectors.
- Identify and report any machinery faults or safety concerns promptly in line with company procedures, supporting a safety-first culture.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the branch, including yard, warehouse, and sales teams, to ensure seamless customer service and efficient delivery.
Key Skills and Qualities – Mill Worker in Timber Production
- Previous experience operating mill or woodworking machinery in a production, contractors, or builders’ merchant setting is preferred, but not essential – full training provided for the right individual.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety, with an understanding of safe manual handling and PPE use.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to thrive in a physically active, team-driven environment.
- Great attention to detail with the ability to follow precise instructions and quality standards.
- Demonstrates a positive, adaptable attitude and a willingness to learn new skills and processes.
- Excellent communication skills and a professional, courteous approach to customers and colleagues alike.
- A forklift licence and/or experience handling timber and building materials is desirable but not required.
