Yard Operative Opportunity – Edgware Branch
As a Yard Operative at Lawsons Edgware, you will become an integral part of our branch’s daily operations. You will work closely with colleagues to ensure our customers receive the reliable, high-quality service Lawsons is known for. This hands-on role involves handling and organising building materials, with a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and excellent customer care.
Main Responsibilities of the Yard Operative – Timber & Building Materials Handling in Edgware
- Safely load and unload timber, fencing, and building supplies for both customer and company vehicles.
- Maintain a tidy, organised yard workspace, ensuring compliance with all site and statutory Health & Safety protocols.
- Support customers by promptly locating and retrieving products, delivering friendly and efficient service at all times.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and assist with stock management, reporting any discrepancies to management.
- Operate forklifts and other manual handling equipment, adhering to all safety training and guidelines (forklift training provided for suitable applicants).
- Collaborate with team members to foster a positive and productive working environment.
- Proactively uphold and promote a strong health and safety culture across all yard activities.
Essential Skills, Experience and Personal Qualities for Yard Operative Jobs – Edgware
- Demonstrable experience in a builders’ merchant, yard, warehouse or similar hands-on/manual role is essential.
- Valid forklift certificate is also essential - training can be provided for dedicated candidates.
- Ability to carry out manual handling, lifting, carrying, and stacking duties efficiently and safely in all weather conditions.
- Solid understanding and commitment to Health and Safety practices in the workplace.
- Strong teamwork skills with a customer-first approach, treating all colleagues and customers with fairness and respect.
- Dependable, practical and self-motivated, with a keen attention to detail and readiness to learn new skills.
Working Hours, Pay and Benefits – Yard Operative Careers at Lawsons Edgware
- Full-time, permanent role – Monday to Friday, with alternate Saturday mornings (shifts between 06:00 and 18:00, Saturday's 1 in 2 - 08:00 –12:00).
- Competitive annual salary of £29,000, dependent on relevant experience and certification.
