We are recruiting an experienced HGV Class 2 Hiab driver to join our Colney Heath branch to support deliveries, customer service and depot operations.
Role Overview
This is a hands-on driving role for a competent HGV Class 2 (C) driver with Hiab experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery and offloading of fencing, timber and building materials to trade and retail customers, maintaining vehicle and load safety standards, and representing Lawsons professionally on site.
Working Hours
Full-time, permanent role. Typical hours are Monday to Friday between 7am - 5pm, with 1 in 2 Saturday's working 08.00 - 12.00.
Overtime may be required at busy periods; availability for early starts is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Operate a Class 2 HGV with Hiab to deliver and offload fencing, timber and building materials safely and efficiently.
Load and secure deliveries in line with company procedures and legal requirements.
Operate the Hiab crane for safe unloading at customer sites, ensuring correct use of slings, chains and lifting equipment.
Carry out vehicle safety checks, basic maintenance and report any defects promptly.
Complete delivery paperwork accurately, including proof of delivery and any customer instructions.
Provide excellent customer service, representing Lawsons professionally and courteously at all times.
Comply with all relevant health & safety, transport and company policies and procedures, including CDL/PSV rules as applicable.
Support yard and branch colleagues when required, including assisting with stock movements and site tidiness.
Skills & Experience
Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence (essential) with current driver CPC.
Proven experience operating vehicles with a Hiab/crane and handling building materials (essential).
Good understanding of load security, manual handling and safe lifting techniques.
Strong timekeeping and route planning skills, with the ability to meet delivery schedules reliably.
Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy depot environment.
Basic vehicle maintenance awareness and the ability to complete vehicle checks and paperwork accurately.
Positive approach to health & safety, with a commitment to working safely and reporting hazards.
