The Role
Working from our Bedford branch, you will support day-to-day yard operations to ensure the efficient receipt, storage and dispatch of goods. You will handle deliveries, load and unload vehicles, prepare customer orders for collection or despatch, and maintain a safe, organised yard environment. The role requires a practical, hands-on approach and close collaboration with branch colleagues to deliver excellent customer service.
Working hours
Monday - Friday 07:30 - 17:00 and every 2nd Saturday 08:00 - 12:00 = 44.5 hours per week.

Key Accountabilities:
Receive, check and safely unload deliveries, ensuring goods match paperwork and report any discrepancies.
Prepare and load customer orders accurately and efficiently for collection or delivery.
Operate yard equipment safely (e.g. forklift) where required and hold relevant qualifications or be willing to train.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe yard area, including stacking and storing stock correctly.
Support branch colleagues by assisting with counter sales and customer enquiries when required.
Help manage stock movements and assist with stock counts and basic inventory tasks.
Follow company procedures for health & safety, manual handling and equipment operation at all times.
Report maintenance or safety issues promptly to branch management.
Contribute to a positive team environment and deliver excellent customer service on-site and during deliveries.
We would love to meet someone who...
Has previous experience in a yard, warehouse or builders’ merchants environment (essential).
Holds or is willing to obtain a valid forklift licence (counterbalance/telehandler) and other relevant certificates.
Is physically fit and able to undertake manual handling tasks throughout the shift.
Demonstrates a practical, hands-on attitude and takes pride in working safely and accurately.
Has good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
Is organised, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a busy team.
Is competent using basic IT systems for order processing or willing to learn.
Will represent and promote the company’s culture, values and professionalism at all times.
