Our History
Lawsons and Son started trading in 1921, at the Old Forge which had previously traded as the Merit Motor & Cycle works. Founded by Thomas Maltby Lawsons and his son “Jack” John Maltby Lawson. The Old Forge is now better known as Lawsons Whetstone! From being a timber supplier the company extended into fencing contracting and supply. In 1952 Jack’s son John Lawson joined the company after being demobbed from the army in 1952.
John oversaw a period of expansion which included acquiring new sites as well as extending into the manufacture and supply of concrete fencing materials. John’s son Simon, our current Chairman, actually started his career at Lawsons working for Supreme concrete.
Now in its 3rd generation of family management, we are proud to say that Simon’s son Josh is already working in the business. Like his father and grandfather before him, he is gaining experience across a variety of roles which will give him the knowledge and skillset to contribute to the future direction and strategy of the business.
